iOS9 Update

Just a quick post to let you know what's happening with regards to iThoughts and iOS9 (released yesterday.)

I've spent all summer concentrating on adopting the corner stone capabilities of iOS9 (and iOS8.) To that end, the next update will contain the enhancements listed below.

This enables you to run 2 applications, side by side on an iPad Air2 (and forthcoming iPad Pro.) See here for a preview.

iThoughts will now better adapt to different screen sizes. This means it can take advantage of the larger iPhone6+ (and iPad Pro) screen sizes.

The contents of all maps are now indexed and can be searched from the iOS search screen (swipe left or down from the home screen.) See here for a preview.

Siri Remind Me

Whilst editing a map, you can hold down the Home button and say 'Remind me about this' and Siri will create a new Reminder - with a link back to that map. See here for a preview.

If you open a map on your iPhone then switch to your iPad then you'll have the option to automatically open that same map. Same applies when moving between iPhone/iPad and Mac*

There is a new 'folder' in iThoughts called iCloud. Anything you place in there will be available on all your other devices (iPad, iPhone, Mac) automatically.

In addition to the above, there are many more 'tweaks' - some of which are listed below:

  • New Rainbow mode - where colors are distributed between topics rather than based on the topic's angle from the centre.
  • Full screen edit mode (with no toolbar or other screen chrome.)
  • Search in iPhone version
  • Better text highlighting during search.
  • Grab file attachments straight from Dropbox/WebDAV servers.
  • Discoverable Keyboard Shortcuts (hold down CMD on a bluetooth keyboard)

So when can we expect it?

I'm currently beta testing it - but my plan is to release something to Apple in the next week or so - then it can take anything up to 2 weeks for them to approve it. Realistically, it will be 'live' on the store Late Sept/Early Oct.

If you'd like to help out with the beta testing, then please see here.
